"Put A Woman In Charge"

What a week it was! Am I excited about putting a woman in charge? You're damn right I am. This music video says it all much better than I can do.

Older women must bring the experience and wisdom they've gained over many decades to the center of the stage. We understand the value of social skills, of massaging friendships that are supportive and letting go of those that are not. We know how to compromise to get things done. We understand the value of listening and doing our best to understand. We are mothers and daughters and grandmothers. We have carried the joys and challenges of pregnancy and birth. Women are multi-taskers. We know how to juggle childcare and work and minding the house (though it is often a challenge without outside support.)

Women understand the insult and hardships of not having control of our bodies, and of politicians (mostly men) making decisions about whether or not we can terminate a pregnancy because of a danger to the mother or the unborn child or because the circumstances in the pregnant mother's life would make it impossible to provide emotional, physical, and financial support.

I could sit here for a long time and continue all the reasons why it is time to put a woman in charge, but I'll leave that up to you. I'd love to know your thoughts. You can reply to this post.

And if you haven't checked out my podcast, "Older Women & Friends," please do. There is something there for women in midlife to older women. Everything from insomnia and women 50+ to sex after menopause, from older women starting new careers to how to end friendships that no longer work. & lots and lots more.
