A BREAST CANCER WARRIOR

You'd never suspect that this fit, smiling woman battled (and continues to battle) breast cancer. She got the call women dread following an annual mammogram. She'd barely made it home when her phone rang. A nurse practitioner asked that she return to the hospital. There was something suspicious that needed further examination.

And so began a journey that was originally diagnosed as Stage 0 Breast Cancer but within a matter of months had spread to eight lymph nodes and exploded to Stage 4.

Bev Krier tells her story in the latest episode of my podcast, "Older Women & Friends." You can listen at https://www.buzzsprout.com/205488 OR wherever you get your podcasts.

Based on the most recent data available, 272,454 women were diagnosed with breast cancer.  In 2022, 42,211 women died from the disease.

Bev's journey was one hellish ride. Anything that could go wrong, went wrong. During a seven-week hospital stay following a massive dose of chemotherapy, she overheard two doctors discussing how she was going to die.

But Bev is a warrior who refuses to give up the fight. For many years, she lived with cancer and multiple treatments. Along the way, she learned a lot about:

  • The value of humor

  • The importance of being surrounded by a team

  • The a need to have a friend or family member with you at every appointment. This person should take notes or record the session.

  • The need to "fire" a physician who is not supportive

  • For her, the value of sharing her illness with others

  • The choice or whether or not to join a support group

& Much More

You won't want to miss my conversation with Bev. While you're at out, check out past episodes at https://olderwomenandfriends.net
